Despite being the most successful women’s soccer team in history and being more successful that the men’s team, the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) is paid significantly less. IN 2016, the USWNT filed a complaint with the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission alleging that they were paid significantly less than their male counterparts. US Soccer claims that the work that the women and men do is “different work” which is why they are not paid similarly.
The history of the case has a lot of parallels to women in other fields and also leads the way for other female athletes experiencing similar discrimination.
